The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) supports the effort to implement the Foothill Commuter Services throughout Amador, Calaveras and Tuolumne Counties. Caltrans awarded project funding through the Federal Transit Administration 5313(b) Program. Caltrans believes that the Foothill Commuter Service is truly a collaborative effort between multiple regions who are undertaking this task to address the regionally mutual concerns of degrading air quality and increased congestion. The Foothill Commuter Service not only seeks a solution to a mutual problem, but also engages the community by educating the public on how to be a part of the solution by providing statistical data regarding their transportation choices.
